Does anesthesia affect hair?

My mom recently had her gaul bladder out so she was on anesthesia for the surgery. Since the hair on the top of her head is very sticky and odd feeling.. almost as if you sprayed hair spray just in that one spot. One of her friends said that can happen.. anyone know anything more about this?

Oui Belle etrangere, anesthaetics will cripple some hair. It destroys the disulfur bridges in the hair, and it looks like it has been melted.

Your mum should avoid any hair treatment for more than 3 months now.

Just have her hair washed with baby shampoo, and very lightly, not more than 3 times a week.

Yes it can!!! One should not have one's hair permed before or 2 months after anaesthesia. The perm either will not take or it will come out all wrong and this goes for colouring hair as well. Your mom aught to carry on washing her hair as normal and use a good conditioner afterwards Good Luck!!

Hi there! I am not a clinical person although I was the office manager of a large anesthesia practice for 25 years and I never once had any patient complain of any hair problems. I doubt that the anesthesia had this effect but suggest that she speak with the surgeon about any problems she may feel are related to the procedure.
