sounds like you would have been better off with african-american hair or even just african for that matter. go ahead and buzz it down to the scalp and be bald-headed

why not try just giving our hair a break and let it curl...you can use like any frizz products at a store...but what type of straightner do you have, because the chi's although expensive don't really dry out the hair a lot...

well the straighter will help the curly poofyness and use a good shampoo and conditioner that will help with the split ends like aussie's root management and tip repair or herbale essance hello hydration... also if u color ur hair alot that could be one problem it is for me but those products help the split ends i never have ne... but the straitner will get rid of the curls... and yes i know it takes forver but its worth it isnt it?

- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!

- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel, a leave in cream, and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).

-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.

- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are examples). Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.

- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Make sure gel is distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you can always scrunch out the cruchy texture later.

- Use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch some of the water out (generic towels can make hair frizz). Then let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!

- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores). The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Texturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites.

- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This takes 2 to 4 weeks begin working. This is hard to do if you don't read the book, or at least visit the websites. Naturally curly hair can be beautiful! Hope this helps!

If your hair straightener has a metal plate, then yes, it does damage your hair. But ceramic ones don't dry out your hair as much AT ALL!!!!! Just buy a good ceramic one and you will be fine. Also, have you tried Bumble and Bumble? It is a really good product, any one of there products is great, try it and see if you think.

hey

i know you're not asking for any product ideas but i had realllllly frizzy hair and i use Fructis Garnier smoothing milk it's the only thing that works for me. i put it in right after i shower and i can straighten it or srunch it. it just takes out the frizz and flyaways but can keep your natural curl.

) First off... I only use shampoo every three days. If I use it more than that it makes my hair even more dry. Everytime I wet my hair I use conditioner. Everytime.

2) When I do shampoo my hair I use Redken Smooth Down Shampoo and Conditioner. It is a little expensive, and you can only get it at salons or online shops, but it is definately worth it!

3) Before I straighten my hair I use a light leave-in conditioner. Make sure that it's light, and that you dont use too much or it can make your hair feel gummy.

4) I dry my hair with a blow dryer before I straighten. It gives me that fabulous poofy 80's hair look.

5) Next important step to keep your straight hair shiny and frizz free: use a hair serum. I have used frizz ease before, but like the shampoo I like the redken smooth down heat glide. This stuff locks in the moisture so the heat from your iron wont ruin it.

6) Make sure your straightener is ceramic! They tend to get hotter, but they dont fry your hair.

7) Start with the bottom sections, going from root to tip, use a comb to make sure you get all leftover frizzies and flyaways.

8) Since my hair is so dry I leave it straight for 3 days max and it looks fine. I do braid it when I sleep, and then just fix any kinks with the straightener in the morning. I also put my hair up when I shower, and if any parts get wet, I let them dry then spot straighten any curlies.

Having straight hair is great, but having curly is too.... learn to embrace it!

Hope this helps!
